A Checklist to Prepare your Family for COVID-19

As the Coronavirus continues to pose a threat for our community, Emirates Home Nursing wants to encourage everyone to stay at home and practice recommended hygiene and quarantine measures.

Here's a checklist to keep yourself and family safe and prepared.

 1. Find the Numbers to Call for Help

The UAE is taking strict measures to fight the spread of Coronavirus. Abu Dhabi set a dedicated hotline to answer all Coronavirus (COVID-19) queries. You can reach out to Abu Dhabi Department of Health (ADDH) through the Estijaba at 8001717.

In Dubai, the Dubai Health Authority provided a toll-free number 800 342.

 2. Know the Symptoms

By now, everyone should know the signs and symptoms of the Coronavirus. The symptoms range from mild to severe illness. It could take 2 to 14 days for the symptoms to appear after exposure.

The most common symptoms are:

Shortness of breath

Emergency warning signs include:

Trouble breathing

Persistent pain or pressure in the chest

New confusion or inability to move

Bluish lips or face

Get immediate medical help if you experience any of these symptoms.

 3. Protect Yourself, Family and Vulnerable Loved Ones

Elders, expectant mothers, and family members with pre-existing conditions are at a higher risk for more serious complications of the COVID-19.

In addition to social distancing, hygiene and regular daily precautions, you can protect vulnerable family members by taking the following steps:

  • Write down any prescriptions they have and stock up for emergencies
  • Write down the numbers for healthcare providers and figure out the services you can ask for
  • Monitor essential medical supplies and care needed, such as oxygen, incontinence, dialysis, wound care
  • Stock up food and minimize store visits

 4. Create a Plan

A plan helps you stay prepared for all circumstances. Your plan should include:

  • prepare a place to isolate yourself
  • stock up food, prescriptions and over the counter medications for two weeks
  • organise a healthcare provider who is willing to help you at home if you don't require a hospital visit
  • create an emergency contact list
